Update from Stuart - our 2025 Bursary Award Winner
Firstly, I'd like to thank Ports of Jersey for sponsoring my award and Helping Wings for giving me the opportunity to fill my passion and love for flying. I have loved flying since an early age after being brought up in and around the airport as my Dad was an aircraft engineer.
I've had 3 lessons so far, with another 3 booked as some have been cancelled. I've been getting used to controls (I do fly model aircraft but it's a lot easier being in it) and learning different techniques but it's great that I can fly Skywalker’s aircraft and don't need to wait for the Aerobility plane to come over, (I just can't use the foot brake).
It's hard to describe the feeling you get taking control of a plane and soaring up above the clouds, it’s a real buzz. I'm looking forward to my next lessons and hope I'm able to continue to get closer to a PPL.
I'd highly recommend anyone with a lower limb disability to have a go as you may just be surprised as I was about what you can do.
